While walking on Balboa Island yesterday, I noticed many beautiful flowers in bloom. I also became aware how many flowers grow through old wooden fences, as if determination to shine and bloom was their quest! Each one of us have the choice to ‘bloom where we are planted’ even if our circumstances are different than what we had hoped. Sometimes in the smallest of gardens come the most beautiful flowers. An eloquent quote from Holocaust survivor, Viktor Frankl reads, “The last of the human freedoms is to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances.” May we choose to shine through life’s narrow spots.
